Eyewitness for Life is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to educate pregnant women regarding their babys development through the use of ultrasound images. Eyewitness for life offers FREE ultrasound examinations to women who are referred by area and statewide pregnancy help centers. An ultrasound, a VHS video and a picture of her unborn baby are provided free of charge to the mother. A registered ultrasonographer is in charge of all examinations, which are provided in a fully-equipped, private ultrasound office. The Procedure An ultrasound machine transmits high-frequency sound waves which are reflected from the womans body and transformed into images. There are no known harmful biological effects from diagnostic ultrasound. Life in the womb is so hidden that it is hard to envision. As early as five weeks after conception, the heartbeat can be identified. At six weeks the head, arms and legs can be seen, and by eight weeks movements can be observed. The baby is very active by ten weeks. The humanity and life of the preborn child are so evident, they cannot be denied. Through this window to the womb, one can watch as the child jumps, turns, sucks her thumb, scratches chin, hiccups, yawns and sleeps.
Ultrasound allows the woman to view her child in her womb. Once a mother has seen her child, many of the doubts and fears about pregnancy are eased. You care about the fate of the unborn, but you may be unsure how to participate in the effort to save lives.
